Twinkling Watermelon will air the finale on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 8:40 p.m. KST on tvN and Viki. The series follows the journey of a CODA (child of deaf adult) student going back in time and meeting a few high school students to form a band called Watermelon Sugar. He also takes on a mission to set some things right in order for his parents to be together.
Episode 16 of Twinkling Watermelon will see Eun-Gyeol’s (Ryeoun) return to the present and reunion with his parents in 2023. However, given the current circumstances with Yi Chan’s (Choi Hyun-Wook) accident, there is also a chance that he won’t able to make it in time and will choose to stay in the past with Yi Chan and the band.

The final episode of Twinkling Watermelon will follow the aftermath of Yi Chan’s accident. Despite Eun-Gyeol’s best efforts to collaborate with Eun-Yu (Seol In-Ah) and avoid his father’s accident, he becomes the sole reason for the accident. Yi Chan met with this unfortunate incident only because he saved Eun-Gyeol from being hit by the car. Yi Chan now risks losing his hearing abilities, which was one of the main reasons for Eun-Gyeol’s time travel.
The official trailer of episode 16 gives some context to viewers about what to expect. While Yi Chan is admitted in the hospital, Eun-Gyeol is devastated at the turn of events and his failure to protect his father. He also receives a call from the Master, who tells him that he has only one day left before he can return to the present. However, Eun-Gyeol doesn’t want to leave his injured father in the hospital.
The Master then expresses that if Eun-Gyeol doesn’t arrive in the same place he time traveled to in the past, he would risk losing the present and the future. His life in 2023, i.e., the present, would disappear, and so would the chance of the future. Meanwhile, Eun-Yu receives a same call and tries to convince Eun-Gyeol to return to the present, but the latter wants to punish the perpetrator of the accident.
Later on, the trailer shows that Yi Chan has woken up, but it is still unclear if he has lost his hearing. When he turns around, responding to Eun-Gyeol’s touch, there is a high chance that the worst has come true. Yi Chan, however, asks Eun-Gyeol not to apologize as it wasn’t his but the driver’s fault.
The last few glimpses of the Twinkling Watermelon trailer show Eun-Yu sad at the thought of leaving others. Yi Chan tells Eun-Gyeol to go back to his family. The latter, meanwhile, cries hearing Yi Chan’s cassette recording, indicating that Eun-Gyeol might have decided to return to the present.
A new teaser of the upcoming episode also shows Yi Chan’s dream coming true. He graduates from college and fulfills his promise to his grandmother. He also keeps his promise to Eun-Gyeol. However, what’s unusual is that Eun-Gyeol and Eun-Yu are also present. The timeline in 1997, which might mean that the duo chose never returned to the present.
However, it might probably be a figment of Yi Chan’s imagination. Viewers will have to tune in to find out if Eun-Gyeol and Eun-Yu return to the present. If yes, they can reunite in 2023 and continue their relationship. In such a scenario, they might also have achieved everything they wanted from their time travel journey.
