After rumors of Jake Gyllenhaal possibly playing Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic Four hit the web, fans want to know if that is the case. Here is all you need to know about the rumors.
Is Jake Gyllenhaal playing Reed Richards in the MCU?
Jake Gyllenhaal has not been confirmed to be playing Reed Richards in the MCU.
However, according to reputed scooper and industry insider Daniel RPK,Gyllenhaal is reportedly considered by Marvel Studios for the role of Reed Richards. RPK revealed this information via Twitter, where he not only mentioned that casting was just beginning as the strikes were over, but also revealed that Marvel Studios was waiting to see if Gyllenhaal accepted the offer to play the stretchy hero.
Gyllenhaal is not the only name that was reportedly being considered for the role of Reed as past rumors and speculations have thrown in names like Adam Driver, Penn Badgley, Matt Smith, and Dev Patel into the mix.
It seems quite strange that Gyllenhaal is reportedly being considered for Reed, as he already appeared in the MCU as Mysterio in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, it would seem as if that would not be a problem as Mysterio appeared as a one-and-done character. Moreover, an actor playing two different roles in the MCU is not new, as actors like Gemma Chan and Paul Bettany have portrayed two different characters in the MCU.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether or not Gyllenhaal will play Reed Richards fans will have to wait for official confirmation of the Fantastic Four’s casting.
However, if Gyllenhaal does end up playing Reed Richards, it would make for a quite hilarious scenario if and when Tom Holland’s Spider-Man ends up meeting him down the line.
