The Bear star Jeremy Allen White recently revealed that he had a meeting with for a comic book project, but that he ended up sabotaging himself in the process.
Speaking with GQ in a recent interview, White spoke about how he once had a meeting for a “Marvel-y movie,” but had an attitude in the meeting, which he thinks led to what was an unsuccessful meeting.
“I had a meeting for a kind of Marvel-y movie, and I had an attitude,” White tells me. “I think I played it all wrong,” White said. “‘Tell me about why should I do your movie,’ they were like, ‘F— you,’ and I was like, ‘Right on.’”
White also wondered why the world of superheroes is the logical endpoint for high-profile actors.
“I am confused at how the pinnacle of an actor’s career has ended up in that place,” said White last year according to GQ.
Now, his stance is a bit different.
“They get really good filmmakers to do those movies and obviously they get really good actors to do those movies,” said the actor, although he doesn’t seem to regret his meeting. “I played it the way I wanted to play it.”
The actor also claimed that he’d much rather work on a “$25 million drama that I think most actors want to make” than star in the latest superhero blockbuster.
White set to star in A24’s upcoming wrestling biopic
White’s next movie, The Iron Claw, hits United States theaters on December 22, 2023. Directed and written by Sean Durkin, the A24 movie tells the story of professional wrestling’s Von Erich brothers. The film also stars Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, and Maura Tierney.
“The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s,” the official synopsis reads. “Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.”
The Bear, meanwhile, was recently picked up for a third season by FX. Co-starring Aye Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson, The Bear Season 3 is expected to debut sometime in 2024.
