In November 2015, Hunter Moore received a two-year and six-month prison sentence for creating the website: Is Anyone Up? In addition, he even paid a fine of $2000 and also $145.70 in restitution. Moore created “Is Anyone Up?” in 2010. However, the website stopped functioning in 2012. He managed to earn thousands of dollars from the website.
Is Anyone Up? was a revenge porn website. It allowed the user to post sexually explicit photos without their consent. Furthermore, the website even allowed people to post personal information like names and addresses. Hunter Moore was popularly called “the most hated man on the Internet.”
Since Hunter served only two years in prison, he was released in 2017. According to Popsugar, currently aged 37, Moore maintains a low profile and tries to stay out of the public eye as much as possible.
Why did Hunter Moore create Is Anyone Up?
Hunter Moore once called himself “a professional life ruiner”. He furthermore compared himself to a popular American criminal, cult leader, and musician named Charles Manson (the man responsible for murder of the actress Sharon Tate). Investigators even called Moore a sociopath in several instances.
Hunter Moore broke all limits of evil when he paid a hacker to enter the email accounts of victims and steal their private photos. The website was active for 16 whole months and the only reason he could get away with all this was because of a legal loophole.
According to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996,
“No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.”
Since it was the users who generated the posts, Hunter Moore was clear of major trouble. In 2022, Netflix released a docuseries titled The Most Hated Man on the Internet. It showcased the life of the convicted criminal.
