Night Has Fallen is supposedly the fourth entry in the Has Fallen film series starring Gerard Butler as United States Secret Service agent Mike Banning. The previous three movies — Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen found box office success, reportedly earning $523.5 million together at the box office against an aggregated $170 million budget. Speculation is rife on when a fourth installment in the series will hit the screens, and some new reports have come to the fore.
Here’s all the Night Has Fallen release date information we know so far and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Night Has Fallen release date?
Night Has Fallen’s release date could arrive by the final quarter of 2024 at the earliest.
In November 2019, producer Alan Siegel announced that his company, Alan Siegel Entertainment, had plans for a fourth, fifth, and even sixth film in the sprawling franchise. He also revealed that they wanted to develop local-language spin-offs. Moreover, producer Les Weldon told Collider in September 2023 that Night Has Fallen could be used as a launchpad for another trilogy if it was successful. A TV spin-off, Paris Has Fallen, is currently in development, with Mathieu Kassovitz slated to play the main character.
In November 2020, Night Has Fallen was officially greenlit. Butler is set to reprise his role as Mike Banning and serve as producer along with Alan Siegel, Heidi Jo Markel, Les Weldon, Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, and Yariv Lerner. A joint venture between G-BASE, Eclectic Pictures, Campbell Grobman Films, and Millennium Media, the project will be directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a script written by Waugh and Robert Mark Kamen.
In January 2023, Butler told Comicbook.com that they already had the script for the film before adding that he wasn’t working on the project at the time. “We have a really fun idea, it just needs to be to be developed,” he explained. “But it’s been fun recently, making action. I will say — I want to play more the Tom Hanks of action movies. Let me take a break from the Mike Banning, where it’s literally seven or eight full-on fight sequences in every movie, fistfights. And actually claiming the characters that are real, who have to pull something extraordinary out of themselves that an audience can really identify with because that’s what we need right now.”
As the script was ready, it’s safe to assume that the project didn’t suffer any delay because of the WGA strike, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike could potentially impact production. Optimistically, if filming begins in late 2023, the film will come out in the final quarter of 2024 at the earliest.
This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.
