Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have been separated for seven years, according to Jada in a recent interview with People.

According to Jada, the pair is still “figuring it out,” and still have love for one another despite the separation.
“We’re still figuring it out,” Jada said. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Pinkett Smith says “a lot of things” played into separation
In a separate interview with NBC, Jada was asked about why the couple had decided against sharing their status. The actress and talk show host noted that it came down to them “just not being ready yet…Still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership … In regards to, how do we present that to people? We hadn’t figured that out.”
As for why the pair separated, Jada noted that “a lot of things” went into it, and that by the time the pair got to 2016, they were both just ready to go their separate ways.
“Why it fractured … that — that’s a lot of things … By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Jada said, before noting that although the pair are separated, they haven’t been able to go through a legal divorce just yet.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever,” said Jada. “I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
