The writers strike has a new update.
On August 15, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) had a meeting. The WGA has been on strike since May 2, 2023, lobbying for better pay and protections from the rise of A.I. in the film and TV industry. They resumed talks recently in the hopes of reaching an agreement that would put an end to the strike.
According to Deadline, the meeting ended with mixed results. “No details have yet to emerge as to whether the parties will meet for further talks or if more proposals will be offered,” reads the statement.
When will the writers strike end?
The strike will end when the WGA and AMPTP come to an agreement over viewership-based streaming residuals, pay raises, and the preservation of the writers room during the growth of A.I.
