According to Deadline, Lucasfilm’s Andor Season 2 production is set to be shut down due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Before this latest delay, the Diego Luna-led Star Wars series was reportedly nearing its filming wrap in the UK. The outlet’s sources note that the acclaimed Disney+ series is currently continuing its production at the Pinewood Studios without cast members who are part of SAG-AFTRA.
More than two months into the writers strike and a week into the actors strike, there has still been no progress regarding WGA and SAG’s separate negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
What to Expect in Andor Season 2?
Andor features Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor. Set five years before the events of Rogue One, the series follows the adventures of the titular hero rebel spy during the formative years of the Rebellion. Set to premiere in August 2024, the season is expected feature time jumps involving Andor’s missions for the Rebel Alliance.
Franchise alums Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, and Alan Tudyk as Cassian’s droid sidekick K-2SO are also returning for Season 2 along with Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller, and Adria Arjona.
Andor is executive produced by showrunner and creator Gilroy, who previously directed the reshoots for Rogue One. Gilroy was originally expected to direct three episodes but was forced to give up the position to Black Mirror‘s Toby Haynes due to pandemic-related travel issues.
