Discussions surrounding The Flash and George Clooney are beginning to take over social media. Many are asking “Is George Clooney the new Batman?”, with a mixture of excitement and worry. Here’s the need-to-know info about George Clooney as Batman and whether or not he is returning. Spoilers for The Flash follow.
Is George Clooney going to be the new Batman after The Flash cameo?
George Clooney is not going to be the new Batman for the DCU, despite The Flash cameo.
As confirmed by James Gunn on Twitter, George Clooney will not be reprising his role to become the main DCU Batman:
It’s more likely that the George Clooney cameo in The Flash was more of a playful joke at Barry ending up in a world with one of the worst versions of Batman. While George Clooney has been hugely successful in other areas of acting, his role as the Caped Crusader is considered by the masses to be one of the worst.
George Clooney agreeing to appear as Bruce Wayne may send some veteran fans into a state of worry, with fears that Batman will be returning to comedy. Fortunately, given the poor reception of the Clooney Batman movies, that is very unlikely to happen. Don’t go expecting to see George Clooney popping up in future Batman movies.
Who will be the new Batman in the DCU?
The new Batman in the DCU will be a brand new actor.
As confirmed by James Gunn on Twitter, the new Batman won’t be played by a returning actor:
It’s worth mentioning that Robert Pattinson plays a different version of Batman that operates outside of the DCU, so his movies should be unaffected.
