During Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2023 CinemaCon presentation, the company revealed some new Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom details while showing footage from the DC Universe sequel.
Taking to the stage on Tuesday, Co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran presented a new look at the film. According to IGN, the video showcased Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman, who now has a child. The footage also featured Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park, on an arctic expedition. The Black Trident was shown, which is a tool used by Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) that gets its power from a “great evil.”
The footage provided a bit more information about the movie’s plot as well, which will see Black Manta threatening the surface world with his newfound power. Prior to the video being shown, a clip from director James Wan played that promised the film would “have everything you love about the first film but more.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is once again directed by Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The sequel features the return of Jason Momoa as he reprises the leading role. Joining him are returning cast members Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Amber Heard as Mera, and Randall Park.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is produced by Wan and Safran. Wan previously teased that the sequel will feature a more serious and relevant story, as well as some horror elements.
