Fathom Events and Toei Company, Ltd. announced Shin Kamen Rider‘s U.S. theatrical release date on Friday. The upcoming Kamen Rider reboot, Shin Kamen Rider, will come to theaters nationwide in the United States in a special one-night event on May 31, 2023.
The special event will see the movie screening in select theaters across the country at 7:00 p.m. local time. Tickets for the film will be available starting on May 5, 2023, and will be available on Fathom Events’ website.
The Hideaki Anno film will likely release stateside in streaming and/or physical format eventually, but for those looking to check out the new film, the big screen is the only way for now.
“College student and motorcycle enthusiast Takeshi Hongo is abducted by the evil organization Sustainable Happiness Organization with Computational Knowledge Embedded Remodeling, otherwise known as ‘Shocker,’ and converted into Batta Augment-01 as part of their plans for world domination,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “Before they can brainwash him to do their bidding, he escapes and uses his new enhanced abilities, renaming himself Kamen Rider, to wage a one-man war against Shocker.”
Anno’s Shin series is comprised of Shin Godzilla, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (titled Shin Evangelion Gekijōban in Japan), Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider. The latest film, Shin Kamen Rider, released in theaters in Japan in March.
The movie is written and directed by Hideaki Anno and stars Sosuke Ikematsu, Minami Hamabe, Tasuku Emoto, Nanase Nishino, Shinya Tsukamoto, Toru Tezuka, Suzuki Matsuo, and Mirai Moriyama.
