Warner Bros. Discovery has remastered Max Fleischer’s animated Superman short film series and will be releasing them digitally on HD and Blu-ray next month.
Out on May 16, 2023, Max Fleischer’s Superman 1941-1943 collects all 17 of the cartoonist’s iconic Superman shorts, which were remastered from the original 35mm source elements of the film.
Alongside the 17 films, a few bonus features are also set to be added to the collection, including three featurettes, all of which examine either the creation of Fleischer’s series or a look back at Superman and the many characters he introduced.
The films, which were originally released in 1941, were the first animated look at the now legendary superhero, which had just premiered in Action Comics only three years prior, in 1938. Fleischer’s series helped boost the popularity of Superman even more and added some aspects to his canon, including catchphrases and key attributes.
When the collection launches on May 16, 2023, it will be available digitally in HD from Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and more, and will cost $14.99. The Blu-ray collection, which will be available in major retailers both online and in-store, will retail for $33.99.
