Earlier this week, word broke that Universal Pictures is interested in signing four-time The Fast and the Furious helmer Justin Lin to an eighth chapter in the action ensemble franchise. Although some outlets speculated that this eight film would mark a franchise capper, Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley today tells The Hollywood Reporter (via /Film) that The Fast and the Furious aren’t likely to hit the finish line anytime soon.
“We think there’s at least three more,” says Langley. “…I think it’s still a growing franchise. We’ll see what happens with ‘Furious 7,’ obviously, but our box office has grown over the past three or four films and internationally, in particular. So we think that there’s more to mine there. But we’re of course very mindful about fatigue.”
The Conjuring director James Wan is taking the steering wheel for the upcoming Furious 7, but the future of the franchise is wide open. If there’s a direction you’d like to see it take, let us know in the comments section below!
Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black, Furious 7 races into theaters on April 3, 2015.
