Obi-Wan Kenobi Explained: Who Is in the Jedi Tomb?

More than half of Obi-Wan Kenobi is already in the books as “Part IV” has been released. The titular character just survived a one-on-one battle with old-friend-now-turned-bitter-enemy Anakin Skywalker, who now goes by Darth Vader. With only a couple of episodes left, Kenobi has to face the ghosts of his past to save Leia Organa and help the Rebellion in its long war against the Empire. Still, he feels lonelier than ever, and the fact that he had to pass through a Jedi tomb didn’t help to brighten his mood.

Who are those apparently dead Jedi whom Kenobi saw? Can they be part of the Empire’s most important experiment?

ComingSoon spoiler alert

Who Is Tera Sinube?

Tera Sinube is a Jedi Master from the Galactic Republic times. Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans know him very well as the Jedi who concealed his light blue lightsaber in his walking stick. The Cosian Jedi Master made his first appearance in the “Grievous Intrigue” episode from the sophomore season. On that occasion, Sinube and the Jedi Council had to devise the best plan to save Eeth Koth from General Grievous’ clatches. Sinube also helped Ahsoka Tano retrieve a stolen lightsaber in the “Lightsaber Lost,” among other adventures in which he was involved in the animated series. It’s unclear what happened to Sinube after the events of The Clone Wars, but he was likely captured during the execution of Order 66 or immediately afterward.

In the latest Obi-Wan Kenobi installment, the titular character traveled to the underwater Fortress Inquisitorius on the moon Nur to save Leia Organa from the Third Sister. Thanks to Tala’s help, Kenobi snuck into the fortress, bumping into a long corridor full of what appeared to be mummified Jedi encased in a sort of orangish resin. That’s where he saw Sinube. Kenobi dreadfully stated that the place was a “tomb,” but the Jedi might not be necessarily dead. Fans already know that Star Wars characters can survive many apparent deaths, including frozen in the carbonite like Han Solo.

Who Are the Other Jedi Kenobi Saw in the Tomb?

In addition to Sinube, the corridor featured many other Jedi trapped in the resin. Kenobi’s focused on some of their faces, but he didn’t call anyone by name. Not even the official Star Wars website helped identify those mysterious characters, who are still unknown to viewers. Kenobi also saw the body of a Youngling, apparently one of the many young Force-sensitives introduced in the series premiere. It will be interesting to see what the Empire is doing with all those bodies. Fans speculate that it might imply some experiments on Force-sensitive people, which might even relate to why the Empire seems so interested in Grogu in The Mandalorian. The miniseries will soon conclude and will likely bring some answers in the remaining episodes.
