Following the theatrical release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it looks like director Jason Reitman is planning to expand the franchise outside of the big screen. Variety brings word that Reitman and Sony Pictures Animation have teamed up with Netflix to develop a new animated series adaptation of the blockbuster horror comedy franchise.

The untitled Ghostbuster animated series will be executive produced by Reitman and Gil Kenan through their Ghost Corps, Inc. banner. Both of them previously co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but aren’t currently expected to write the upcoming animated project.
Should the project secure an official series order, this would mark the third animated series of the franchise following ABC’s The Real Ghostbusters in the late 80s and Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997.
