According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures has already started the preproduction process on Oscar winning-filmmaker Bong Joon Ho’s Robert Pattinson-led untitled sci-fi drama film at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom. It will officially begin its principal photography this summer. This marks Bong’s latest directorial effort in three years since the widely successful theatrical run of his acclaimed 2019 film Parasite.

The untitled project will reportedly be based on Edward Ashton’s Mickey7 novel. It is being written and directed by Bong Joon Ho. Producers are Bong for Offscreen, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B, and Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company.
Published last year, The Mickey7 novel centers around an Expendable, which the synopsis describes as “a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

This also marks Pattinson’s first project following the most recent theatrical release of The Batman, which saw his debut as DC’s newest version of the Dark Knight. He is expected to reprise the superhero in the forthcoming sequel, which was just recently announced during CinemaCon.
