Actress Jamie Bernadette will star in the upcoming series The Legend of Firelily. Bernadette (I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu) will play actress Shay Walker, whose life serves as the inspiration for the 10-episode series.
The Legend of Firelily is currently in production under the direction of Christian Hardy (Le Pain). It explores how Walker was able to overcome sexual abuse by the clergy and found justice decades later representing herself in court against her abuser. Hardy was nominated for best cinematography at the Nice International Film Festival 2020 for his work on Empire.
Walker, who is best known for starring in Benh Zeitin’s Wendy as Angela Darling and Bloody Nose Empty Pockets by the Ross brothers, was discovered by Zeitin while waiting tables in a diner. The Legend of Firelily is written, directed, and produced by Walker, who also appears in the series. The show will also star Gary Grubbs (The X-Files), Mike Markoff (Death Squad), Dwight Henry (12 Years A Slave), Jeanne Young (Home Free), and Dallas Schaefer (Boytalk),

“Leaving home because of sexual abuse at age 14, Walker built her ‘family’ from a cast of characters that taught her the ropes of being a drug mule, to a bookie’s assistant, to a bartender, waitress, cook and anything else that paid the bills,” says the description. “She buried her entire family along the way with her mother being murdered as well as her brother. On top of this, the actress was also in a relationship that ended up with her being severely abused by malicious malware hacking technology. Her husband being the one being behind the mirrored screens of a digital nightmare.”
The Legend of Firelily is now out to networks.
