Starz has dropped the official trailer for its newest historical drama titled Becoming Elizabeth, starring Alicia von Rittberg as the titular orphan who would later become queen. The series is slated to make its debut on Sunday, June 12.
The video, which you can check out below, highlights the aftermath of King Henry VIII’s death and its consequences on the relationship of the three surviving children: Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward. It also teases Elizabeth’s coming-of-age story as she tries to take control of her destiny.

The series is created and written by acclaimed playwright Anya Reiss. It chronicles the younger years of Queen Elizabeth I, which follows an orphaned teenager through her journey to becoming England’s most iconic Queen.
“It centers on young Elizabeth Tudor, an orphaned teenager who becomes embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court on her journey to secure the crown,” reads the synopsis. “The death of King Henry VIII sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power. His surviving children find themselves pawns in a game between the great families of England and the powers of Europe who vie for control of the country.”
Becoming Elizabeth stars Alicia von Rittberg, Bella Ramsey, Romola Garai, Jessica Raine, Tom Cullen, Oliver Zetterström, John Heffernan, Alexandra Gilbreath, Jamie Blackley, Jacob Avery, Alex Macqueen, Leo Bill, Olivier Huband, Ekow Quartey, and Robert Whitelock.

Becoming Elizabeth hails from an all-female writing team including Reiss, Emily Ballou, Anna Jordan, and Suhayla El- Bushra. It is executive produced by The Forge’s George Ormond and George Faber.
