John Cena has closed a deal to star in Coyote vs. Acme, an upcoming live-action/CG animation hybrid film from Warner Bros. that will center on the classic cartoon character Wile E. Coyote.

The film is set to be directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), with Chris DeFaria and James Gunn attached as producers. Screenwriters Samy Burch has writing credits on the latest draft of the film, which is said to be based on an article from the New Yorker titled “Coyote v. Acme,” originally written by Ian Frazier and published in 1990.
Coyote v. Acme will tell the story of a down-on-his-luck attorney who takes on Wile E. Coyote as his client as the iconic cartoon character looks to sue Acme for its many defective products. However, things take a turn when the boss (Cena) at a former law firm is revealed to be representing Acme in the lawsuit. Production on the film is set to begin in March in New Mexico, with no planned release date available as of yet.

For Cena, this will be yet another big film in the actor’s growing portfolio. After making a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling with a legendary career, Cena jumped into the world of acting, where he starred in 2018’s Bumblebee before breaking out in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as Peacemaker, a role Cena also reprises in the HBO series Peacemaker, which was recently renewed for a second season.
