Comment From SamuraiKnight07

And thank you guys for doing the awesome live blogs…appreciate it for all the fans not able to make it there.

4:18

ComingSoon.net: No problem!

4:18

Comment From MarvelWatch

…. and now we’ve reached the annual point in the con where I start to doubt that we’re getting any big announcements.

4:18

Spencer Perry-SHH: Just you wait til tomorrow…

4:18

ComingSoon.net: The movies that are scheduled are The Book of Life, Hitman, Kingsman, Let’s Be Cops and The Maze Runner, but who knows.

4:20

EDouglasCS: Hey guys… I’m here!

4:20

EDouglasCS: There won’t be anything from Fantastic Four

4:20

EDouglasCS: Moderator for the panel is Ralph Garman… never heard of him

4:20

EDouglasCS: I don’t expect any major announcements

4:21

ComingSoon.net: Famous last words. 🙂

4:22

Comment From Tom P

Garmystrong. Hes a KROQ presenter and co-host of Hollywood Babble-On podcast with Kevin Smith

4:22

Spencer Perry-SHH: This guy knows his moderators! (garmy strong!)

4:24

EDouglasCS: The movies they’re featuring are The Maze Runner, Book of Life, Hitman, Kingsmen and one other

4:24

EDouglasCS: They just showed an extended clip of Dylan O’Rien’s Thomas as he arrived in the maze

4:24

EDouglasCS: Will describe in a second

4:24

EDouglasCS: Director Wes Bell, author James Dashner are here

4:25

EDouglasCS: as is actor Will Poulter and Dylan O’Brien (who got a big scream)

4:25

EDouglasCS: Also Kaya Scodelario

4:25

EDouglasCS: People keep asking about IMAX… I don’t know the answer to that question

4:25

EDouglasCS: Anyway, the extended footage basically was Thomas arriving in the maze as we see the elevator go down and then come to where he’s confronted by the other guys in the maze

4:26

EDouglasCS: Will Poulter jumps down and he runs off but his legs give out on him

4:26

ComingSoon.net: Ed, will you be in IMAX?

4:26

EDouglasCS: He gets up and looks around to see that he’s surrounded by high stone walls

4:27

EDouglasCS: Director Wes Ball is talking about how he got the gig after directing the short “Ruin” saying that he was interested in the environment and concept of the book

4:27

EDouglasCS: Sorry, he’s giving a really long answer on why he wanted to do it.

4:28

EDouglasCS: Apparently, there was a screening of the movie at Comic-Con last night

4:28

EDouglasCS: the author is talking about seeing the movie for the first time, saying that he was shaking and bawling

4:28

EDouglasCS: “They really captured my vision. Wes and this cast, they took the vision of my book and turned it into a magnificent film.”

4:28

EDouglasCS: They’re giving a first look at the second trailer

4:29

Comment From Jesse Gendelman

Will the Maze Runner be in IMAX?

4:29

Spencer Perry-SHH: We don’t know.

4:31

EDouglasCS: The new trailer looks great!

4:32

EDouglasCS: it basically gives a pretty good plot summary with Thomas arriving at the Blade and learning about the maze and the Grievers (the creatures in the maze)

4:32

EDouglasCS: Will Poulter is talking about playing Galley “the closest thing to a villain”

4:33

EDouglasCS: He says that they tried to make him more empathetic so he’s not completely bad

4:33

EDouglasCS: The footage shows Teresa arriving at the glade and how that affects the dynamics

4:34

EDouglasCS: Kaya is talking about the only female in the cast.

4:35

EDouglasCS: They didn’t show too much of the Grievers, keeping them in the shadows but there was at least one shot that was pretty good

4:35

EDouglasCS: Wes says that Kara became “one of the boys”

4:35

EDouglasCS: They’re going out to the audience for questions…. and the first is asking about the most fun scene to shoot

4:35

EDouglasCS: (and most grueling)

4:36

EDouglasCS: Dylan says he liked the wrestling scene with Will Poulter

4:36

Comment From Alex

Such a typical question to ask.

4:36

EDouglasCS: Welcome to Comic-Con audience participation! 🙂

4:37

EDouglasCS: I have to say that the trailer really make the maze look massive… definitely seems like a big screen movie, so IMAX would be very cool, but I’m not sure if that’s gonna happen

4:37

EDouglasCS: Kara was talking about how she liked the treehouse that was built for the film.

4:38

EDouglasCS: the author James Dashner says that the most fun scene was the one he was in i.e. he has a cameo in the movie

4:38

EDouglasCS: Kaya was asked how it was different being on “Skins” and doing this movie

4:39

Comment From João Paulo – BR

The trailer keep the suspense or is more focus on the action?

4:39

EDouglasCS: Definitely a lot of focus on the action… it’s a very quickly pace trailer

4:39

Comment From Jesse Gendelman

Will it be in IMAX?

4:39

EDouglasCS: Please stop asking Jesse… I already said I don’t know.

4:40

EDouglasCS: Someone is asking if there’s anything in the book that didn’t make it to the movie

4:40

EDouglasCS: Wes Ball “All the favorite scenes that fans have of the book will be in the movie. I changed-up anything that wouldn’t be very visual”

4:40

EDouglasCS: “It was all about condensing down the story and all the suspense and momentum was important.”

4:40

Comment From Timothy Augello

Did the trailer have a more darker/serious feel or a lighter feel?

4:41

EDouglasCS: Definitely more dark… there were no jokes or laugh moments at all

4:41

Comment From Asteroid-Man

EDouglasCS, if your opinion, does it look like a good movie?

4:41

EDouglasCS: Yeah, I’m kind of intrigued, having not read the book, although I’m generally dubious of the YA adaptations

4:41

EDouglasCS: Jesse, long story short, IMAX and FOX have issues that I can’t explain beyond that.

4:43

EDouglasCS: BTW, I saw Divergent on the plane to Comic-Con and it’s hard to be cynical about them… one thing that’s different about this and The Giver is that they have male protagonists

4:43

EDouglasCS: They’re being asked about The Grievers

4:43

EDouglasCS: Wes compares them to “guard dogs” that kills these kids as they try to escape.

4:43

Comment From Connor

Maze Runner doesn’t have romance, so that’s different.

4:43

EDouglasCS: Good point.

4:44

EDouglasCS: Wes is talking about designing the Grievers

4:44

EDouglasCS: Asteroid-Man asks how long the panel is going to last… it’s two hours long

4:44

Comment From Jesse Gendelman

How come there issues between fox and IMAX?

4:44

EDouglasCS: Sorry. I can’t say more on that topic.

4:45

EDouglasCS: They’re going to show another scene of Thomas encountering the Grievers

4:48

EDouglasCS: Wow, that was a pretty impressive scene that shows Thomas and another guy carrying a third guy through the maze

4:49

EDouglasCS: And then they get their first glimpse of the Griever which looks like a giant spider with a large mouth filled with sharp teeth

4:49

EDouglasCS: The clip is mainly Thomas being chased by the Griever and he jumps and climbs to the top of the maze and runs along the top, leaping when he gets to an edge

4:50

EDouglasCS: there’s one shot that’s taken right from The Lord of the Rings when Bilbo (or is it Frodo) is being stalked by the giant spider

4:50

Comment From The Chad

How was the reaction from the audience when they seen the Griever?

4:50

EDouglasCS: They seemed to like it

4:51

EDouglasCS: Anyway, Thomas can’t get away from the Griever and eventually the walls of the maze start closing and Thomas runs fast trying to escape… and then the clip ended.

4:51

EDouglasCS: Spoiler: I think he survives

4:51

EDouglasCS: But the Griever looked pretty decent as good as the spider in Lord of the Rings and I guess Harry Potter

4:51

Comment From João Paulo – BR

There is a chance they show the trailer online after the painel?

4:52

EDouglasCS: not sure what’s planned… when’s the next Fox release? I mean, they could in theory put in front of The Giver in August

4:52

EDouglasCS: It does look promising though.. i think Wes Ball is a pretty decent visual filmmaker.

4:52

EDouglasCS: Says they may be gearing up to shoot a sequel (?) in the fall or winter?

4:52

EDouglasCS: The sequel is called The Scorch Trials

4:53

Comment From Guest

Yahoo Movie will be exclusively debuting the second trailer for The Maze Runner on Tuesday, July 29 at noon (ET) / 9 AM (PT).

4:53

EDouglasCS: There ya go

4:53

EDouglasCS: They showed the first image from The Scorch Trials which looks pretty fantastic… basically a half dozen boys in a large desert landscape with ruins in the background

4:54

EDouglasCS: Not sure what’s next. I’m guessing Book of Life, the animated movie

4:55

EDouglasCS: They’re talking about the plot of Book of Life and its voice actors Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum and Diego Luna

4:55

EDouglasCS: I know for a fact that Channing Tatum is here

4:55

EDouglasCS: I thought they were going to show a trailer but I guess not

4:55

EDouglasCS: First up is director Jorge Gutierez

4:56

EDouglasCS: And producer Guillermo del Toro who gets huge applause (They love GDT at Comic-Con)

4:56

EDouglasCS: Christina Applegate the voice of MaryBeth

4:56

EDouglasCS: Ron Perlman, the voice of Zibalba (sp?)

4:56

EDouglasCS: And the voice of Joaquim … Channing Tatum. The women go wild!

4:56

Comment From Spoon

Do you feel this years panels are not as spectacular as previous?

4:57

EDouglasCS: I dunno, I’m kind of jaded. I don’t think the panels have gotten much better in the last couple years

4:57

EDouglasCS: Jorge said that his motto was “Never let the truth come in the way of a good story”

4:58

EDouglasCS: Guillermo made a joke about the thing on his name card saying that many people in the panel may be under the age of 18

4:58

EDouglasCS: Guillermo is talking about Jorge showing up at his house with a big trunk of tequila and all the art for the movie to pitch the movie

4:58

EDouglasCS: (I have interviews with the two of them coming up later)

4:59

EDouglasCS: Okay.. for the last time… there will NOT be anything from Fantastic Four (which just started shooting) or X-Men: Apocalypse

4:59

Comment From Derk The Snall

Is the Maze Runner the next teen franchise to take over for Hunger Games and all that stuffs?

4:59

EDouglasCS: I’m not sure. It’s hard to tell.

5:00

ComingSoon.net: We do have a cool exclusive at about 6 p.m. Pacific from this panel though 🙂 It’s Kingsman related.

5:01

Spencer Perry-SHH: Can confirm, it is very cool

5:01

ComingSoon.net: Fantastic Four has been shooting for a while, but the producer said it wasn’t going to be there.

5:03

EDouglasCS: So they showed a clip of Channing Tatum’s Manolo walking into a bullfighting ring and taking a rose from the floor and putting it in his accostic guitar

5:03

EDouglasCS: acoustic

5:03

EDouglasCS: He then starts serenading his love Maria with his version of Radiohead’s “Creep”

5:04

EDouglasCS: It then went into an extended trailer that showed a lot of the story

5:04

EDouglasCS: What what? Biz Markie just came out to sing a chorus of “Just a Friend” (which is also featured in the trailer)

5:05

EDouglasCS: (Not much of a surprise since I saw him backstage)

5:05

EDouglasCS: He’s having the audience sing along with the chrous

5:05

EDouglasCS: Anyway, the trailer shows three guys riding on horseback and gets into the love triangle that Manolo has with his friend over the love of Maria

5:05

EDouglasCS: But then Manolo gets dragged away to a place called The Land of Remember which is very colorful

5:06

EDouglasCS: Jorge is talking about how he loved songs like “Creep” and “Just a Friend” which is why he was glad to be able to get the rights to the music

5:06

EDouglasCS: Ron Perlman is talking about his character, who has been around for a thousand years and that he really likes snake

5:06

EDouglasCS: snakes

5:06

EDouglasCS: (we see him making a bet with his wife La Muerta over which friend will end up with Maria)

5:07

EDouglasCS: The animation looks a little strange… a little like wooden puppets, but especially in the Land of the Remember

5:07

EDouglasCS: Channing Tatum was asked about whether he’d done animation and he said he just spent an hour with Jonah Hill for The LEGO Movie

5:08

EDouglasCS: Channing was asked about putting a twist on the character

5:08

EDouglasCS: Christina is talking about playing Marybeth

5:08

EDouglasCS: She’s a tour guide who takes a bunch of kids into a room to show them the Book of Life… she’s sort of the narrator of the movie

5:09

EDouglasCS: The trailer also showed a good bit of Ice Cube’s character as well

5:10

EDouglasCS: BTW, Zoe Saldana isn’t there, maybe because she’s doing a lot of press for Guardians around the world. I doubt she’ll be there tomorrow

5:10

EDouglasCS: Guillermo is describing Jorge as his twin brother.

5:10

EDouglasCS: GDT is talking about how each movie he makes shows a different side of his personality

5:11

EDouglasCS: He feels he has a kinship with every movie he gets involved with including Hellboy, The Orphanage, etc

5:11

Comment From Jeff

What does Ice Cube’s character look like?

5:11

EDouglasCS: He’s pretty big.. also looks wooden like a puppet (I think that’s a big part of the Land of Remember as there are characters who look like Day of the Dead puppets

5:12

EDouglasCS: Jorge is talking about the Land of the Remember, which is “the world of the dead”

5:12

Comment From Guest

Any other live panels tonight? Or are they reserved for the big show tomorrow?

5:12

EDouglasCS: I think this might be it for tonight.

5:12

Comment From ahtif

Is trailer to hitman going to be shown

5:12

ComingSoon.net: Arrow is going up right now.

5:13

EDouglasCS: Not sure what they’re showing but Zachary Quinto is here

5:13

EDouglasCS: There ya go!

5:13

Comment From Martin

Is this animation that looks like stop motion or stop motion that looks like animation??

5:13

EDouglasCS: Not really… it looks like CG

5:13

EDouglasCS: Jorge is talking about the visual influence of Mexican culture such as the Day of the Dead on the movie

5:14

Comment From Travis

How’s this going to translate to euro audiences – who have never heard of the Book of Life and its mexican cultural tradition. Does it have enough of a generic storyline to tackle this?

5:14

EDouglasCS: Good question, Travis.. it’s hard to tell. I think there’s a visual aspect that’s cool as well as the music one that will connect both to kids and adults (ala Rio maybe?)

5:14

EDouglasCS: The look is a little odd and unique

5:14

EDouglasCS: Channing being asked about what it was about his voice that made him good for the role since he’s known for his looks and physicality

5:15

EDouglasCS: “They told me I was going to have an amazing mustache in this movie and I thought my voice could use a mustache”

5:15

Comment From Timothy Augello

So is this intended to be a full on comedy or will there be some action/drama in it as well?

5:15

EDouglasCS: I get the impression it will be a mix of all three things, similar to other animated movies.

5:16

EDouglasCS: GDT says that Channing has a vulnerability that comes through in his voice and all the women in the audience are going “Awww”

5:16

EDouglasCS: That’s it for the Book of Life panel

5:17

EDouglasCS: Not sure what’s up next.. I think there’s one more before Hitman

5:17

EDouglasCS: People in the audience are calling out for Hellboy 3… and chanting “Hellboy 3! Hellboy 3!”

5:18

EDouglasCS: Yeah, next up is actually Hitman: Agent 47

5:18

Comment From João Paulo – BR

This audience is awesome, because everyone wants Hellboy 3.

5:18

EDouglasCS: Rupert Friend couldn’t make it to Comic-Con because he was taping Homeland

5:19

EDouglasCS: This is going to be the first preview of the film

5:21

EDouglasCS: Wow, the Hitman footage looked amazing!

5:21

EDouglasCS: Coming out to talk about the movie is Hanna Weir and Zachary Quinto

5:21

EDouglasCS: The footage opens with a really cool version of the opening to Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze as we open on the back of Agent 47’s head with the number on his neck

5:22

EDouglasCS: He’s sitting in an interrogation room with a guy asking him questions with a rifle on the table pointed directly at his chest

5:22

EDouglasCS: Hannah is talking about the role of Katia

5:22

EDouglasCS: Anyway, the footage

5:23

EDouglasCS: The interrogator says “Let’s start with your name” to whichi Friend responds “47”

5:23

EDouglasCS: “That’s not a name” “But that is mine”

5:23

EDouglasCS: The interrogator asks “What exactly are you?” to which Friend responds “an assassin” and he asks who he’s there to kill

5:24

EDouglasCS: The interrogator reminds him that he’s locked in a room with him with a gun pointed at him and 47 says that “I’m not locked in here with you, you’re locked in here with me” and then he kicks the table up as the rifle fires and we see a slow motion bullet going past him

5:24

EDouglasCS: It’s all action from there as we see 47 coming out of a red card with two guns, some action with a helicopter flying up the side of a building

5:25

EDouglasCS: The tagline is “Your Number is Up”

5:25

EDouglasCS: I have to say the footage looked a lot better than the original Hitman

5:26

EDouglasCS: I don’t know much about the director Aleksander Bach

5:26

EDouglasCS: Both actors are saying how much they enjoyed shooting in Berlin and Singapore

5:26

Comment From Gary

Is this a sequel?

5:26

EDouglasCS: I dunno.. it seems more like “the Incredible Hulk” in that it’s a reboot. Doubt anything will be referenced from the first movie

5:27

EDouglasCS: Rupert Friend looks pretty good.. he doesn’t look particularly built as he’s skinny but he does seems look good in action

5:27

EDouglasCS: I’ve been told that this is Bach’s first movie… wonder where they found him

5:28

EDouglasCS: They’re saying that fans of the video games should appreciate the movie since they’re trying to make something they would like

5:29

EDouglasCS: Oh, fifth movie they’re doing is “Let’s Be Cops”

5:29

EDouglasCS: No Jake Johnson cause he’s shooting Jurassic World

5:30

EDouglasCS: Zachary is being asked about trying to play different roles and he said that he liked doing action in Star Trek and that this has a similar element

5:30

Comment From Ben

Aleksander Bach is a famous commercial director, he won many huge awards for his commercials.

5:30

EDouglasCS: Thanks Ben… this is his first feature film though

5:30

Comment From TheBeardedBatman

So if they decided to make something for us who love the games then why pick a dude who looks nothing like 47? why cant anyone from the audience ask these kind of questions.. People think too much and say too little

5:31

EDouglasCS: Have they shown an image of Rupert Friend as Agent 47 yet? I only have the Timothy Olyphant version as a reference. I’ve never played the game

5:31

Comment From Sarmed

Any surprises?

5:31

EDouglasCS: The people keep asking about Fantastic Four after it’s been said that it won’t be here 🙂

5:32

EDouglasCS: Apparently Square Enix are giving away copies of Hitman Go at the booth… while Fox are looking for Agents 1 – 46, something they’re doing in conjunction with IGN

5:32

EDouglasCS: Next up is Let’s Be Cops

5:32

EDouglasCS: First up is Rob Riggle (this is his third cop movie!)

5:32

Comment From Griffin

Fox released the first two stills from Agent 47 yesterday, so yeah, there are images of Friend out there 🙂 CS hasn’t picked up on it yet though

5:33

EDouglasCS: Next up is Keegan Michael Key

5:33

EDouglasCS: Nina Dobrev

5:33

EDouglasCS: and Damon Wayns Jr!

5:33

Comment From Yasmin

What did Hannah Ware said about her role in hitman?

5:33

EDouglasCS: Not a lot… she was only shown briefly in the trailer but apparently 47 is looking for her

5:34

EDouglasCS: There’s a taped intro from Jake Johnson

5:34

EDouglasCS: We see Jake Johnson in a white bathrobe with a mustache for his role in Jurassic World

5:34

EDouglasCS: A muscular guy in underwear comes up behind him and says “Jake, I’m all done” and then Jake pulls out a wad of cash and pays him

5:35

EDouglasCS: Even the other actors are cracking up about that

5:36

EDouglasCS: Writer/director Luke Greenfield couldn’t be there but apparently it’s based on a true story when he put on a police uniform to pick up women and screw with people

5:36

EDouglasCS: (Along with his co-writer Nicky Thomas… apparently they got arrested for it)

5:37

EDouglasCS: They’re going to show footage

5:42

EDouglasCS: They showed an extended version of the trailer that shows a lot of funny bits and a lot of the things from the trailer extended

5:42

EDouglasCS: The idea is that they’re trying to figure out what to wear to a costume party and they decide to wear police outfits and they realize that everyone thinks they’re real cops

5:43

EDouglasCS: Damon Wayans is talking about a scene they showed had Damon and Jake helping a couple real cops (one played by Rob Riggle) as they go into a home depot type store and they’re attacked by a giant sumo-looking guy running and screaming at them

5:43

EDouglasCS: Damon’s character tries to take him down but ends up on the ground with the guy on top of him with his crotch in his face

5:44

EDouglasCS: He’s wearing underwear but Damon said that in the movie, he is NOT wearing underwear

5:44

EDouglasCS: Keegan-Michael Key is talking about his character who has dreads and a spiderweb tattoo on his face and he gave a taste of his accent int he movie

5:45

EDouglasCS: Keegan says there’s a scene where the two fake cops water board him but they went a bit far

5:45

EDouglasCS: That scene in the trailer where they’re called to a sorority was also extended and it was even funnier with the stuff that’s not in the trailer

5:46

EDouglasCS: There’s a lot more of Rob Riggle’s character including one where he shakes Jake’s hand and suggests they sing the police academy song “Brothers in Blue” which of course he doesn’t know

5:47

EDouglasCS: We also see a bit more of Nina Dobrev who plays a waitress who is more attracted to Damon when she learns he’s a cop

5:47

EDouglasCS: Last up is Kingsman

5:47

EDouglasCS: From the same gang that brought you Kick-Ass (that was at Hall H about five or six years ago)

5:47

EDouglasCS: Mark Millar is moderating the panel

5:48

EDouglasCS: (I interviewed him earlier today)

5:48

EDouglasCS: Apparenlty they didn’t give the audience a chance to ask questions of the cast of Let’s Be Cops

5:48

Comment From Roku

Is matthew vaughn there?

5:48

EDouglasCS: No, he’s not.

5:48

EDouglasCS: Millar is talking about when they first brought Kick-Ass to Hall H those years ago

5:48

EDouglasCS: “This is a spy movie for those who find spy movies boring”

5:49

EDouglasCS: Kick-Ass didn’t even have a distributor back when they were in Hall H

5:49

EDouglasCS: He brings out his Secret Service co-creator Dave Gibbons

5:49

EDouglasCS: Screenwriter Jane Goldman

5:50

EDouglasCS: Sophie Cookson and Sir Colin Firth

5:50

EDouglasCS: Sofia Boutella

5:50

EDouglasCS: And Samuel L. Jackson who gets the biggest applause from the crowd

5:50

EDouglasCS: He’s wearing a Heisenberg shirt and a summer hat

5:57

EDouglasCS: Mark MIllar joked that Matthew Vauhgn was in the hospital because he had a Rocket Raccoon toy up his arse

5:57

EDouglasCS: They showed an introduction bit from Matthew Vaughn who is wearing a Kick-Ass mask and he introduced someone else from the movie… Mark Hammill! (who is wearing a Hit Girl wig)

5:57

EDouglasCS: Will describe the footage in a second

5:58

EDouglasCS: They brought out Taran Egerton

6:00

ComingSoon.net: Here’s your exclusive first look at Mark Hamill in Kingsman: The Secret Service! http://www.superherohype.co…

6:03

EDouglasCS: they showed two clips, one which they already showed at CinemaConw which is of Colin Firth’s character Harry meeting with Taron Egerton who plays Gary aka “Eggsy”

6:03

EDouglasCS: The first clip was something new though

6:04

EDouglasCS: Samuel L. Jackson talked about wanting to be in a Bond flim

6:04

EDouglasCS: Anyway, the first clip has a camera panning on a cabin in the mountains.

6:04

EDouglasCS: We go inside and there’s someone in a chair with a hood over their head which is pulled off to reveal Mark Hammill’s character Professor James Arnold

6:05

EDouglasCS: He tries to convince the thug that he’s just a university lecturer

6:05

EDouglasCS: But the thug says they have to wait for the boss and he offers him a whisky

6:06

EDouglasCS: We see that there’s five or six thugs in the room and then there’s a knock on the door and it’s Jack Davenport as an agent who proceeds to take out all of the thugs

6:07

EDouglasCS: Crap, they’re showing another clip and then the panel is over

6:07

EDouglasCS: Some guy in the audience is going to be flown to London to appear in the movie

6:10

EDouglasCS: They just showed an extended trailer/sizzle reel to the tune of The Doors “Break On Through” that showed a lot more of Samuel L. Jackson’s character

6:10

EDouglasCS: He’s a very strange character, wearing a white NY baseball cap and coat and glasses and he talks with a lisp

6:11

EDouglasCS: I think I’m about to get kicked out of my seat but I’ll try to continue this when I find a new place to sit

6:11

EDouglasCS: I want to talk more about the footage shown.

6:11

EDouglasCS: Sorry.. back in a minute or two

6:18

EDouglasCS: Sorry about that.. I’m back for a little bit to talk about the footage

6:19

EDouglasCS: In the first clip, Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean) comes in and takes out the thugs holding Mark Hammill. He then suavely takes the whisky off the tray that was brought in for him

6:19

EDouglasCS: There’s another knock on the door and there’s a slicing sound and Davenport is split in half by what turns out to be Gazelle, Sofia Boutella’s character

6:20

EDouglasCS: She’s the enforcer for Samuel Jackson’s Valentine and after taking out Davenport she starts covering up the bodies with towels before Valentine enters

6:20

EDouglasCS: It’s quite a striking character as I mentioned before because it’s very different from other characters Jackson has played

6:22

EDouglasCS: is anyone here anymore?

6:22

EDouglasCS: Oh, okay

6:22

EDouglasCS: Anyway, Gazelle is pretty impressive… she doesn’t say much but she has these blades on her feet that’s a bit like the South African Olympic runner

6:23

EDouglasCS: The panel is done but it ended so quickly I didn’t get to say much about the footage

6:23

EDouglasCS: Apparently Sam Jackson’s character abhors violence and the sight of blood which is why he lets Gazelle do that for him

6:24

EDouglasCS: Anyway, so they showed that first clip (which is the opening of the movie) and then Eggsy’s first meeting with Harry (who is no longer his uncle like in the comics)

6:25

EDouglasCS: And then they showed the trailer/sizzle reel which include a sequence of Firth and Jackson talking about their backgrounds

6:25

EDouglasCS: Jackson asks Firth if he likes spy movies because when he was a kid, that was his dream job

6:25

EDouglasCS: Jackson wanted to be a “gentleman spy”

6:26

EDouglasCS: Firth says that he thought that the Bond movies were only as good as the villains

6:26

EDouglasCS: and adds that as a kid he always wanted to be a “colorful megalomaniac”

6:27

EDouglasCS: Jackson says “What a shame we had to grow up”

6:27

EDouglasCS: The footage then showed a lot of Eggsy training as a Kingsman with Mark Strong (!!!!) as his trainer

6:28

EDouglasCS: Jackson’s Valentine reiterates that he can’t stand the sight of blood, telling Gazelle to clean up the blood on the carpet

6:28

Comment From João Paulo – BR

Who is the director, I forget?

6:28

EDouglasCS: Matthew Vaughn

6:28

EDouglasCS: (Kick-Ass, Stardust)

6:29

EDouglasCS: Even though Jackson’s Valentine looks kind of dopey the footage showed that he really is a menace… he has one line that goes “Mankind is the virus and I’m the cure

6:29

EDouglasCS: Yes, X-Men: First Class too… not sure why I spaced on that 🙂

6:29

EDouglasCS: The trailer is cut to a cover of The Doors “Break on Through” by the way

6:30

EDouglasCS: The sizzle reel showed a little bit of an even larger fight sequence of Firth’s character in a church fighting a lot of thugs

6:30

EDouglasCS: That actually seems to be a theme of the movie… having these agents taking on a lot of guys at once

6:31

EDouglasCS: It also seems very violent but more in a cartoony way

6:31

EDouglasCS: What else?

6:31

EDouglasCS: Jesse, I believe that Kingsmen will be in a new format called JMAX which is even bigger than IMAX

6:31

EDouglasCS: (Just kidding.. stop asking about IMAX already!!!!) 🙂

6:32

Comment From João Paulo – BR

The kid who is the protagonist, he is good? I want to know about the dynamic between him and Firth.

6:33

EDouglasCS: I thought the scene between Firth and Taron Egerton wasn’t bad but that was all we really saw of him besides him training in the sizzle reel

6:33

EDouglasCS: I think he’s pretty good at playing a cockney punk but it was only one real scene

6:33

EDouglasCS: Any other questions? I want to get out of Hall H 🙂

6:33

Comment From CJohn

Any more panels today?

6:33

EDouglasCS: Just Kevin Smith’s panel… which is why I want to get out of Hall H 🙂

6:34

EDouglasCS: Okay that’s all folks. I have to say that Kingsman impressed me the most, followed by Hitman, but I think that’s more of our audience

6:34

ComingSoon.net: Thanks Ed, much appreciated! Thanks everyone for tuning in!

6:34

EDouglasCS: See ya all tomorrow! Lots of exciting panels including Marvel, Legendary and Warner Bros! And Sin City!

6:34

EDouglasCS: Bye!
