Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc Episode 4 - Insult Review

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc Episode 4 – Insult Review

This week’s episode of Demon Slayer is another example of the power of episodic pacing, as things finally kick into gear with action. Picking up right where things left off, Tanjiro discovers he’s in a dream world and has to commit an absolutely gut-wrenching act in order to wake up.

Episode four finally, properly, introduces us to the villain Enmu, and their overall plot for taking down the Demon Slayers. While this episode is mostly focused on Tanjiro, we do get some hilarious insights into the psyche of both Inosuke and Zenitsu.

The real highlight here, of course, is the battle between Tanjiro and Enmu at the end of the episode, which concludes with some glorious water-breathing from our protagonist. With the release of this episode, I went back and watched the film version of Mugen Train, which is now available on Funimation. There’s a definite difference you can see in the animation quality, and the episodic version feels like it has deeper and richer coloring. It’s something you might not notice unless you’re looking for it, but it’s certainly there nonetheless.

This fourth episode, again, doesn’t really add anything new to the Mugen Train experience but it’s a tightly-paced episode that ends with a fantastic battle and sets the stage for even larger things to come. Again I wish there could be at least a bit of new content, but as a standalone episode “Insult” is one of the best of the Mugen Train arc so far.

SCORE: 8/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 8 equates to “Great.” While there are a few minor issues, this score means that the art succeeds at its goal and leaves a memorable impact.
