Is Josh Boone really going to be the one to carry The Stand feature film across the finish line? After a few false starts and other directors on board, it certainly sounds like it based on the way he’s been talking about it in the press. Last month, he was talking about how he was writing a part with actor Nat Wolff in mind. Now, he’s providing more updates while on the press tour for his film The Fault in Our Stars.
He recently told Vulture:
Were gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And its gonna be awesome. Im really excited. Its the most exciting thing Ive ever got to do in my entire life. If 12-year-old me had ever known that one day Id be doing this, to even just go back and look at that kid, Id be like, Keep doing what youre doing! Its just crazy. Ive met so many actors over the years, and like, when I met Stephen King, I hugged him with tears in my eyes. He meant that much to me when I was young. I still say everything I learned about writing I learned from Stephen King. I dont read screenplays. I dont read screenplay how-to books. Its always just, establish the character. Establish the character.
And wow, does “The Stand” have a lot of characters to work from. We’re still hesitant to think he can distill this tale into a 3-hour film, but we shall see!
