With production currently taking place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, new behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever surfaced online, providing us with our first look at the return of two fan-favorite characters. The new Black Panther 2 set photos, which you can check out below, feature Danai Gurira’s Okoye, and Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who are both seen wearing a very stylish look in their characters’ signature colors, with Shuri sporting a new hairstyle.

The newly released photos came after confirmation that Dominique Thorne will officially be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Riri Williams/Iron Heart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ahead of her Disney+ series. Thorne was also spotted filming at M.I.T this week, which makes sense given that Iron Heart in the comics is an M.I.T student on a scholarship.

Based on the Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.
The sequel will once again be directed by Ryan Coogler from a screenplay he is co-writing with Joe Robert Cole. It will see the return of most of its original main cast including Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Winston Duke as M’Baku.
In addition, Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) has reportedly been cast as the upcoming film’s antagonist, with some fans and outlets speculating that he might be playing the role of Namor. I May Destroy You creator-star Michaela Coel has also reportedly signed on for an undisclosed role.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2022, two years following the untimely passing of titular star and acclaimed actor Chadwick Boseman, who died at the age of 43 after his four-year-long private battle with colon cancer.
In addition to the MCU sequel, Coogler is also currently developing an untitled Black Panther spin-off series for Disney+, which is being described as an origin series.
