Batwoman: Ruby Rose Comments on Kate Kane Recasting

After the surprising news about Krypton alum Wallis Day’s casting as Batwoman’s newest Kate Kane broke out yesterday, fans have been curious if the series’ former lead star Ruby Rose was aware about the recasting, especially when she recently revealed that she was open to reprise the role again in the future. It looks like the Australian actress has heard the fan callings as she went on to Instagram to finally comment on the Kate Kane news by immediately showing her support for Day’s casting.

In her Instagram story, which you can check out below, Rose confirmed that she has already known about The CW series’ decision to recast her former role before it was announced yesterday.

“I’m sorry I didn’t congratulate @wallisday yesterday. I knew about the casting beforehand and didn’t know when it aired so I forgot to,” Rose said. “But I’m stoked for her! I’m seeing all the things I’m tagged in with people sad or wondering how I felt… I feel great, I have nothing but good vibes.”

Nearly a year since Rose has exited her leading role as the Arrowverse’s scarlet knight, she has already moved on to starring in action films such as last year’s The Doorman and most recently in SAS: Red Notice. She will next be seen in the action crime thriller Vanquish starring opposite Morgan Freeman.

The first season starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) as Luke Fox, Nicole Kang (You) as Mary Hamilton, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Elizabeth Anweis as Catherine Hamilton-Kane. Most of the first season’s main cast members came back for the second season except Rose, who suddenly departed the series back in May.

Following her exit, The CW and the show’s creative team ultimately decided to introduce a whole new character to take on the mantle of Batwoman. Soon after, Javicia Leslie has been officially cast as the new lead of the series and became the first Black actress to play Batwoman in a live-action TV or film production. She is portraying the role of Ryan Wilder, who was first described as a likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed and is nothing like Kate Kane.

Leslie made its debut in the second season of Batwoman. Despite Wallis Day’s casting as Kate Kane, Leslie will still continue to be the show’s titular scarlet knight.

Season 2 will also feature new cast members Shivani Ghai (Dominion) as Safiyah, Leah Gibson as The Whisper, Nathan Owens as Ocean, and Alex Morf as Victor Zsasz as well as the introduction of DC villain Black Mask.

Based on the characters from DC, Batwoman is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Caroline Dries, Geoff Johns, and Sarah Schechter. David Nutter and Marcos Siega executive produced the pilot.
