FX has announced that Ryan Murphy’s critically-acclaimed drama series Pose will officially be concluding its run with the upcoming third season. In addition, the network has also finally revealed the premiere date of the final season, confirming that the series is scheduled to make its return on May 2 at 10PM ET/PT with the first two episodes. Murphy along with executive producers Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals have commented on the news regarding the ending of Pose. In their individual statements, they’ve expressed their gratitude and sense of pride for the opportunity of creating such a groundbreaking series and delivering an honest LGBTQ story.
“Pose has been one of the creative highlights of my entire career,” Murphy said in a statement. (via The Wrap) “From the very beginning when Steven Canals and I sat down to hear his vision and ideas for the show, it has been a passion project. To go from the beginning of my career in the late 90s when it was nearly impossible to get an LGBTQ character on television to Pose — which will go down in history for having the largest LGBTQ cast of all time — is a truly full circle moment for me.
He continued, “This show made history behind and in front of the camera, and its legacy runs deep. I’m so proud of my fellow creators Steven Canals and Brad Falchuk, and also to exec producer/writer/director Janet Mock who made such an indelible mark with her personal and heartfelt work. Thanks also to Our Lady J for her incredible work as a producer, writer and actress on the show. John Landgraf and Dana Walden supported Pose from the very beginning. We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honored and grateful. Pose’s story may end in 1996, but its impact will go on forever.”

In the final season, it’s now 1994 and ballroom feels like a distant memory for Blanca who struggles to balance being a mother with being a present partner to her new love, and her latest role as a nurse’s aide. Meanwhile, as AIDS becomes the leading cause of death for Americans ages 25 to 44, Pray Tell contends with unexpected health burdens. Elsewhere, the emergence of a vicious new upstart house forces the House of Evangelista members to contend with their legacy.
Pose explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe and the downtown social and literary scene. The first season earned rave reviews from critics who praised the combination of style, energy, exhilarating drama and performances from its cast and garnered solid ratings for a cable series, averaging about 600,000 viewers per episode.

After an extensive nationwide search helmed by award-winning casting director Alexa Fogel (Atlanta), co-creator Ryan Murphy (American Crime Story, American Horror Story) and his collaborators made television history by assembling the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles, as well as the largest recurring cast of LGBTQ actors ever for a scripted series. The transgender cast includes MJ Rodriguez as Blanca Rodriguez, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross. Also co-starring are Tony Award winner Billy Porter as Pray Tell, Charlayne Woodard as well as newcomers Ryan Jamaal Swain as Damon Richards and Dyllon Burnside.
Pose was co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals. The series is executive produced by Murphy, Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Sherry Marsh. Canals is a co-executive producer, and Janet Mock, Our Lady J, and Erica Kay also serve as producers.
