It’s crazy to think Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is already four years old and we’re still getting new info on the tumultuous production. Case in point: a new still shared by Industrial Light & Magic Animation Director Hal Hickel that teases a scene between Darth Vader and Grand Off Tarkin. Hickel revealed that the scene was scrapped because it no longer fit the film’s narrative, which is a shame because more Vader is always a good thing, right? You can check out the still below. And, if you so desire, continue reading to learn what actor Mads Mikkelsen (TV’s Hannibal) thought of the extensive round of additional photography.

Surprisingly, Mikkelsen, who played Galen Erso in the Star Wars spinoff, wasn’t too bothered by the changes the film endured.
“Some of it was a little chaotic,” he said to the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “There was no secret that there was some rewriting in the script while we were doing it. And when you do that…it is obviously very tricky for the actors to know ‘What am I carrying into this room now? I opened the door. I’m not back to what happened before.’ So there was some of that.”
“Having said that, it always felt like a solid story,” Mikkelsen continued. “A young girl lost, [who] doesn’t know where she belongs in the world. Then an Oppenheimer story unfolds. She’s always heard he [Galen] was this, and then she realizes he was that. And it was quite beautifully written. At the end of the day, the changes that were in the film were not as dramatic as people talk about. It was tweaks, but obviously if you do it while you’re working it can be confusing.”

Dramatic or not, it would still be great to get an extensive breakdown of Rogue One as it was originally shot before said changes.
No matter. The film was still popular enough with audiences and critics to get its own spinoff in the form of the Disney+ series Andor, which will explore Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) life before he met Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). Andor is currently filming, though no official release date has been announced.
