Greg Berlanti (Superman & Lois, The Flash, Arrow) is re-teaming with Supergirl writer Derek Simon on a new series titled The Disaster, a space drama adaptation currently in development at The CW. The project is written by Simon and will be executive produced by Berlanti through his Berlanti Productions banner (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Based on the book by M.K. England, “the potential series is set in a near-future where humans have colonized space to save Earth from climate crisis. The Disasters follows a group of washouts from Earth’s prestigious military academy who are framed for treason and forced to go on the run to the Colonies to clear their names.”

Simon will also executive produce alongside Lee Toland Krieger (You, Superman & Lois). If Simon’s script is picked up for a pilot, Krieger will direct. Berlanti’s company partner Sarah Schechter and head of television David Madden will also executive produce.
