According to Deadline, Netflix has officially given a series order to Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone’s upcoming workplace comedy titled God’s Favorite Idiot. On top of executive producing the project, McCarthy and Falcone have also signed on for the leading roles, marking the pair’s latest collaboration together.

God’s Favorite Idiot centers around a mid-level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) finds love with co- worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. Also, there’s roller skating, a lake of fire and an impending apocalypse.
The 16-episode comedy is created by Falcone with Michael McDonald attached to direct and serve as an executive producer. Falcone and McCarthy are executive producing through their On The Day production banner. The series isn’t the only project that they’re currently working on for Netflix as they’ve recently wrapped production on the superhero comedy film titled Thunder Force starring McCarthy and Octavia Spencer which is written and directed by Falcone.

The married duo’s notable works together where Falcone served as a director include: Tammy, The Boss, Life of the Party, and the recently released HBO Max film Superintelligence. Other notable works where they get to share the screen together are Bridesmaids, Identity Thief, The Heat, The Happytime Murders, and Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
