George Lucas, Mark Hamill and More Pay Tribute To Star Wars Icon Dave Prowse

Earlier this weekend, Dave Prowse passed away at the age of 85. Prowse had a long career in film and television including roles in A Clockwork OrangeDoctor Who, and the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy TV series. However, Prowse was best known for portraying Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, as his physical performance was matched with James Earl Jones’ voice. Via StarWars.com, the creator of the franchise, George Lucas, paid tribute to Prowse.

“David brought a physicality to Darth Vader that was essential for the character,” said Lucas. “He made Vader leap off the page and on to the big screen, with an imposing stature and movement performance to match the intensity and undercurrent of Vader’s presence. David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. May he rest in peace.”

Mark Hamill also shared his thoughts about the actor who played his on-screen father.
