Benedict Cumberbatch Heads to Blood Mountain

Benedict Cumberbatch has, according to Variety, signed on to star in Blood Mountain, an upcoming thriller to be directed by Sergei Bodrov (Mongol, Seventh Son) with a script from Jonathan W. Stokes and John Romano.

Blood Mountain follows a private military contractor who survives an enemy attack in hostile territory. Now he’s forced to escort his prisoner, the world’s most wanted terrorist, to safety against nigh-impossible odds.

Cumberbatch starred last year in Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Fifth Estate in addition to his television work on the BBC’s “Sherlock.” There’s no word yet on whether he’ll be playing Blood Mountain‘s military contractor or the terrorist.

Sales for Blood Mountain will take place at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. Altitude Film Sales will handle international sales with UTA Independent Film Group looking at finding a domestic buyer. The project is targeting an April shoot in Morocco.

Producers on Blood Mountain include Lawrence Bender, Nicola Horlick, Ian Hutchinson, Skady Lis and James Gibb. Claudia Bluemhuber, Rachel Green, Shaun Redick and Brooklyn Weaver will executive produce.
