Nicole Kidman Horror Classic The Others Getting Remade

It’s a wonder that it’s already been nearly 20 years since the Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies)-led modern horror classic The Others hit theaters and the time has apparently come for Hollywood to want to remake it as Sentient Entertainment has won the rights to bring the story back to life, according to Deadline.

The remake will be produced by Sentient’s Renee Tab (Feud: Bette and Joan) and Christopher Tuffin alongside Lucas Aksoskin for Aliwen Entertainment, with veteran Spanish producer Cerezo executive producing with FlimSharks’ Guido Rud and Miller Way’s Michael and Jeeny Miller.

I am honored to be able to work on my favorite horror film of all time, The Others, and to bring this reimagining to the big screen for new audiences,” Tab said in a statement. “It is almost eerie and uncanny how timely the themes are today: self-isolation, paranoia and fear, and of course the intense desire to protect our children and ourselves from harm. We look forward to unraveling the layers behind lead character Grace, whose pain and demons draw viewers into a truly compassionate journey.

The film, written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar released in fall 2001, starred Kidman as Grace Stewart, a war widow in 1945 Britain who has isolated herself in her country mansion with her children, who are suffering from a rare disease characterized by photosensitivity. Their isolation is uprooted when three strangers arrive, leading to the unveiling of a whole host of secrets kept hidden in the dark mansion. Kidman was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance with Amenábar winning the Goyas Award for Best Director and Screenplay.
