BH90210 Revival Series Cancelled After One Season at FOX

Following BH90210’s first season finale last September 11, TVLine reports that FOX has officially decided not to give the revival series a second season renewal.

“We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network’s legacy series and casts with 90210 fans across the country,” FOX said in a statement. “Profound thanks to and respect for Brian, Gabrielle, Ian, Jason, Jennie, Shannen and Tori, who, along with the entire crew and everyone at FOX and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival.”

The first season of the comedy drama was made up of six episodes with original stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth serving as its executive producer. Spelling and Garth along Brian Austin Green took to their social media accounts to give their reactions to the cancellation and to thank fans for the success of their reunion.

3 things happened this past summer… – 1. #bh90210 was the highest rated show of the summer . – 2. Our #bh90210 cast proved that after 20 years, you indeed CAN go home again… – 3. I didn’t cram myself (with 3 pairs of spanx! ) into a red dress I wore on tv when I was 18 years old for nothin… – Sometimes home isn’t where you ARE but who you are WITH. Together, our #bh90210 family can do anything. We’ve proved that to each other and our loyal fans. We ARE better together. – Our show is so meta that all the reality out there just helps us continue to evolve and gives us GREAT new storylines! The gift that keeps on giving. We aim to keep audiences guessing what will happen next. So stay tuned as our journey unfolds… #bh90210 #onthemove #myhighschooldressfits #miraclesdohappen

In the first season, having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian, and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?

The first rebooted series, simply titled 90210, debuted on The CW in 2008 and ran for five seasons until 2013, featuring original cast members Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Ann Gillespie, Tori Spelling and Joe E. Tata in guest appearances. The meta reboot was originally being shopped to multiple networks, with CBS actively developing the project as recently as December, but it appears the series had return to its home network of Fox — and was labeled as a co-production of CBS TV Studios and Fox Entertainment.

Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini, who worked on The CW series, also wrote and executive produced the revival. They have some history with the mockumentary format, as well, as the two created So NoTORIous, the Tori Spelling vehicle that aired for one season on VH1 back in 2006.
