Deadline brings word that The CW is in the process of developing a reboot of the 1970s’ martial arts drama series Kung Fu with mega-creator Greg Berlanti set to executive produce through his Berlanti Productions.
Co-created by Blindspot‘s Christina M. Kim and Martin Gero, the reboot will be featuring a young female lead. The project was first introduced at FOX and was given a pilot commitment last year but the deal fell through and it never went to pilot.

In the Kung Fu reboot series, a quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice…all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her.
The series is written by Kim and will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter along with Kim and Gero through Gero’s Quinn’s House Production banner. Berlanti, a master of superhero TV shows, has helmed series including All American, Arrow, Black Lightning, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Riverdale, Supergirl, Blindspot, God Friended Me, The Red Line, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, You, and Titans.
