Collider is reporting that Miles Joris-Peyrafitte (Dreamland, As You Are, The Hunter & the Fox) will direct Margot Robbie’s (Birds of Prey, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Suicide Squad) Tank Girl. Robbie will be producing the project under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.

Based on the 1988 comic from creators Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett, Tank Girl follows a tank operator with a mostly-shaved head who travels around a post-apocalyptic hellscape doing odd jobs and getting into trouble. The media outlet notes that the movie could see Tank Girl teaming up with Jet Girl, a fellow outlaw, and a group of rebels in order to rise up and destroy a tyrannical government that has seized control of the already scarce water supply.
Tank Girl is being developed for Robbie to star, and she will produce partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. A script for the movie has not yet been written.
Martin recently posted on Twitter about the news, saying: “Just heard that Margot Robbie’s company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie – now several months into development. We haven’t been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators.”
Tank Girl was previously adapted into a film in 1995 by director Rachel Talalay (Doctor Who, The Flash, Riverdale) and writer Tedi Sarafian. The movie starred Lori Petty, Ice-T, Naomi Watts, Malcolm McDowell, Jeff Kober, Don Harvey, and Reg E. Cathey.
