James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will feature several actors reprising their roles from the original 2016 film, but Gunn is also planning to introduce a handful of new characters in his upcoming soft reboot. One of the chief new additions will be played by Idris Elba, although his character is still a mystery. However, it sounds like his character will have some family drama to deal with. According to The Wrap, Storm Reid has just been cast as Elba’s character’s daughter.
Reid came to prominence last year when she headlined Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. She currently has a main role on HBO’s Euphoria and also recently appeared in two episodes Netflix’s When They See Us. Next up, she’ll appear with Elisabeth Moss in the remake of The Invisible Man, which arrives in theaters next year.

It was originally reported that Elba was replacing Will Smith as Deadshot in The Suicide Squad. But back in April, it was announced that Gunn retooled the script to have Elba play an entirely different character. Elba and Reid will star alongside returning Suicide Squad members Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, and possibly Margot Robbie as well. David Dastmalchian will join the film as Polka-Dot Man.
The Suicide Squad is expected to begin filming in September and will hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Thanks to a recent Instagram post, we know that Gunn is drawing inspiration from writer John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad comics from the ’80s.
