Collider brings word that Blumhouse is preparing to begin filming Halloween 2 this fall, with an expected release date on October 16, 2020. The outlet also notes that Jamie Lee Curtis is expected to return alongside Judy Greer and Andi Matichak, who played Laurie Strode’s daughter and granddaughter in 2018’s Halloween.
The report goes on to say that David Gordon Green wrote the script for the horror sequel (earlier reports said that Scott Teems was in talks to pen the script). While Green is expected to return to direct, there have been no sources confirming who will take over the director’s chair for Halloween 2.
Malek Akkad will produce alongside Jason Blum and Bill Block. Danny McBride, who co-wrote Halloween alongside Green, is expected to executive produce. Green, Curtis, John Carpenter, and Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson will also executive produce.
Released last October to critical acclaim and huge box office success, 2018’s Halloween brought in over $250 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing slasher film of all time. The film ignored all the previous continuity from its many sequels, instead opting to tell its own story free from the confines of the previous mythology. Curtis previously appeared in four films in the series, including the 1978 original, its 1981 sequel, 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and Resurrection.
