In the previous episode of The Good Place, Michael met with the Committee and learned the horrific state of bureaucracy in the afterlife. He decided to meet with the Judge at IHOP; in order to discuss a course of action. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Good Place season 3 episode 11!
Lessons on Inter-dimensional Travel
The group was walking to IHOP and Jason was upset that it wasn’t the pancake house chain, but instead the Inter-dimensional House of Pancakes. Michael had chosen to meet there as the Judge’s powers were lessened and she would be unable to ‘retire’ the group immediately. Michael sent the group through the door to the IHOP dimension. Once inside, Jason asked Janet to become his girlfriend, in the event they survived this ordeal. The Judge arrived and immediately augmented reality to make everything appear like a standard Earth IHOP. Michael began to explain his findings to the Judge. The Judge found his findings to be unhelpful and completely obvious. Jason jumped in and surprisingly related Michael’s findings better through telling a story about a man named Big Noodle.
The Scientific Method
The Judge decided that the best course of action was for her to go to Earth and see what the humans dealt with. She quickly returned and revealed that Earth was in a very poor state. The Judge brought Shaun in and she asked for his advice on how to proceed with the Earth crisis. She transported them into a conference room and their discussion began. Shaun believed that all humans were inherently terrible and evil. Michael agreed that some humans were bad, but added that the vast majority were not. Chidi reasoned that Michael’s neighborhood showed that humans could become better people when extraneous influences were removed. He thought they should repeat the experiment with four new humans. The Judge agreed and they went to Mindy’s house to build a new neighborhood in her backyard.
Speedy Building
After arriving at Mindy’s house, she told Janet that Derek, Janet’s son/boyfriend (don’t ask, it’s complicated), had been living with her for a while. Derek strode onto the porch and began to entertain Janet by quoting Edgar Allen Poe. The Judge explained the rules of the experiment to both Shaun and Michael, but they couldn’t figure out how to populate the neighborhood. Janet pitched that she could create the people, like she had Derek. Michael began planning his newest neighborhood with Janet’s help. They quickly built the neighborhood and Eleanor and Chidi moved into house within the neighborhood. Michael received the information for the first resident of his new neighborhood. The resident was named John and was a journalist in his natural life. John awakened, but Michael found that he was unable to meet John as he was nervous.
