Inside Man 2, the sequel to Spike Lee’s 2006 heist film, has found its leading man. According to Deadline, Aml Ameen (Sense8, The Maze Runner) has been tapped to play the lead.
Taking over for Lee as a director will be MJ Bassett, who’s helmed several small screen episodes of Iron Fist, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Power. Brian Brightly will pen the script. The film will be licensed for Netflix, as well as available on other digital platforms.
In Inside Man 2, the U.S. Federal Reserve is robbed by a highly organized and cleverly orchestrated team of crooks. With dozens of tourists held hostage during a 10-hour siege, an NYPD hostage negotiator (Ameen) and a federal agent join forces to rescue the hostages and foil the heist.
Lee’s 2006 film starred Clive Owen as a bank robber with a very unusual approach to getting what he wanted. It starred Denzel Washington as the hostage negotiator, Clive Owen as the criminal, and Jodie Foster as a top-tier banker with a particular interest in the crime.
Ameen was most recently seen in Yardie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and marked Idris Elba’s debut as a director.
